Procrastination

Procrastination. A terrible habit we all do, well most of us at least. I dont know its just something I cant discipline myself out of. Why do people procrastinate?

Its almost a challenge like, what is the least possible time it would take for me to eventually complete this task, you know?

Its like when you play video game and theres that level where you have to kill all the enemies in a dungeon, disarm a bomb and save your friends before it explodes annihilating all of you into oblivion kind of stuffs. You wouldnt feel pressured or challenged if you had all the time in the world right or there was no bomb threat.

I think I even remember the first time I discover procrastination. It was like discovering how to live for the first time. I was extremely diligent with my work as a kid having strict parents that put a lot of discipline towards education and stuffs similar to it. I had homework that was due like the next day but a Naruto and Dragonball Z movie was airing that particular night and my mom said

" Adik! Dah siap semua kerja sekolah? "

and I kinda lied (sorry ibu kalau ibu baca nie.. tipu tu time darjah 4 haha) and said yes.

The movie finishes and I was surprisingly exhausted afterwards and I endup passing out. I wake up and its THE NEXT DAY. I started panicking over my incomplete homework but after a minute I stopped.

Eventually, I paused and think..

" Okay Sam, okay! Fokus, kerja sekolah tu untuk mata pelajaran Matematik, hari nie masa matematik tu start selepas rehat pukul 11, kalau aku buat kerja sekolah tu time waktu rehat and sambil makan-makan, mungkin cukup masa kot untuk habiskan benda tu, oh and masa untuk sebelum rehat tu waktu Bahasa Melayu, and cikgu BM tu agak sempoi maybe boleh kot slow2 buat benda tu belakang dia.. "

Right? Like you start going covert ops on your homework and milking any possible time you have until the deadline. Hahaha. You guys remember how offended teachers get when you work on homework that's not from their class and it's like dude, you ain't the only one on my plate and this homework is like between life and death for meeee!

Maths class comes around and the teacher asks everyone to take out assignments and I pulled it out so quickly and proudly like I wanted to boast about how much time I worked on it like..

" Korang tengok tak movie cerita Naruto dgn Dragonball semalam?
Fuh aku buat keje math nie sambil layan dua movieeee nie dooooohhh!!! HAHAHAHA "

Well, time flew by and it gets progressively worse from then on procrastination became my life. Like going to bed for example. I would probably be like

" Kalau aku tido an exact 34 mins from now,
Ill get 6 hours of sleep~ Mehh~~ Leh lagi dota satu game~ Letsuuu GOOO! "

I mean when you think about it, life itself is a very long chain of procrastination right? As morbid as it sounds, we just occupy ourselves with distractions and time consumers until we reached the end of our lives. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that being alive or the things that we do on to day-to-day basis are pointless, but it is rather the exact opposite of that. To procrastinate doesn't necessarily mean to underachieve.

It means to delay or postpone action. Often something you HAVE TO DO for something you WANT TO DO. Some of you maybe at a crossroads of your life where you're deciding over what you want to do for a living. You may want to procrastinate if you have the luxury to do so of course. To take time and explore your choices before settling on something you might not entirely enjoy.

For example like procrastinate on searching for a partner you may not even need just because your aunt and uncle that every family gathering asked if you're married yet. You probably procrastinating right now reading this post and you might even do something else afterwards like watching youtube videos or playing games along the way kan.

While I do not claim responsibility for missed deadlines or whatever, just know that it is sometimes okay to just treat yourself, you know.

AI and My Two-Cents About It

The concept of AI is something that I think we are all familiar with, thanks to numerous amount of TV shows, movies, and novels. For me personally I found this some sort of tired concept. You just seen it too many times in Sci-Fi and especially the idea that AI is going to take over.

We have seen it movies like Terminator, Space Odyssey and as well as some of my favourite novels like I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Don't get me wrong, I find it a very interesting concept eventhough its overused, but when Stephen Hawkins in 2014 came out and said..

" But I think the development of full artificial intelligence would spell the end of the human race "

My mind sorta went..

" Pff... Stephennn, dude.. Whattdooya know about anything okay? Do you watch Rick and Morty? Cuz I do and I think I have a little better grasp of the universe concept ideas like AI. Just stick to your science stuff all right? Thank you very mucccchhh!  "

The concept of AI taking over feels so far off because it seems so obscured, the way its portrayed in Hollywood movies or in the work of fiction. However in reality its actually, I think or from what I've learned an ACTUAL THREAT!

The idea that Arnold Schwarzenegger could come back and kill us all, its not as far away as we think.

How do we come to this conclusion?

I'm gonna try and explain okay, but to be honest, I truly dont know shit about what Im talking about soo please cut me some slack along the way if you think I had the wrong opinion. If we take back a couple of steps, there's this game of tic-tac-toe that I found, no matter what move you make, the computer would never let you win.

Its kinda annoying. Its programmed with algorithms so that no matter what move I make in those exactly what move to counter it to make sure that I can't win no matter what. Well, I suppose that's not a big deal huh? But lets take a more complex game than tic-tac-toe like chess for example. There's a lot more possible outcomes in that game. Some foresaw that within ten years a digital computer will beat a world chess champion.

It didnt take 10 years at all. Not until 1997

You may of heard of this, it was quite the big deal at the time, DeepBlue was the first computer that was able to beat the reigning chess champion at the time Garry Kasparov.

Now it still doesn't seem like that big of a deal and basically the way deep-blue worked was that it would scan every single possible outcome it could make about 200,000 per second. It would then make the best decision based on what he could find through this method of scanning. At this point,

I'm still like

" Pff.. Stephen Hawking, I have seen the videos of machines falling over alright. I think we have nothing to worry about "

Afterwards here's is where I think its gets interesting. In March 15, 2016, the champion of the Chinese board game go was beaten by an AI against Alpha-Go.

Now the sole reason why this is such a big deal is because in Chess you only had so many options, but in GO there are so many different moves that you could make and there are more possible moves that you can make than there are atoms in the universe and there's no way that you're going to be able to compute that amount of options to figure out, whats the best move to make? So the question is..

How do they make this?

It might not seem that not big of a deal either but its really cool. It basically uses deep reinforcement learning which is similar to how we learn as humans, through trial and error, reward and punishment and of course raw inputs.

The computer figure learns itself how to become good at the game. Not too long ago, there was a viral video from sethbling that uses method to teach a computer to play Mario and it became really freaking good at it.

Basically it uses neural network to learn how to play the game which is similar to how we think as human beings and with enough computing power, you could simulate a human brain in this way. I know its kinda exaggerating but yeah we are not there yet!

Of course it wasnt good from the beginning and it had to learn how to get good. The AI first dont even know where it has to go and what option available and what Mario is and eventually it figures out it needs to move right but through different generations and learning from trial and error and adapting from these mistakes. It eventually becomes better and better and yeah you got it, the similar method was used for the AlphaGo program where it would train against itself slowly becoming better and better and eventually a master at the game.

Theres also a super cool video about a robot that doesnt know that it has limps but it teaches itself how to walk despite of this. It sorts of figures out it has four limbs but it doesnt know where those limbs on its body is attached and by trial and error it eventually figures out wheres its limbs are positioned and eventually it can very graciously move across.

Its really really cool. Self learning AI is really cool. There's a lot of advantages you can do with this like using it for design for example. Like there is this 1 video about an AI made a cabin partition that's in those most airplane which is far more reliable than the originals.

So then with Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking saying AI could become a problem in the future, that idea starts to sort of make more sense to me knowing that this is how it works.

So I quote again from one of the most famous Elon Musk's interviews saying that

Even Bill Gates, a guy who has been involving with computer softwares for years says that our method of evolving is very inefficient. Comparing it to how AI would be evolving and exponentially growing and knowing. Keeping that in mind, human are basically inferior lets be honest here.

With that being said, not everyone is on board in this idea that AI is going to take over or if its even a problem for the future. However, as vague as that sounds, there are still dangers involved with the development on this and we definitely need to be careful. How can we protect ourselves from ourselves? Do that question ever linger in your heads?

Anyhow, computers smarter than human beings is inevitable. That is, if you keep in mind how short we have even had technology and our presence in the universe. Now whether AI will be something good or destroy us all in the future, that's just for us to find out. I hope this post is educational to you guys and I surely hope I don't say anything wrong because I sure am no expert. Its just my two cents.

Kay guys gonna continue on the Rick on Morty show pasni.. Will post more blogpost similar to this soon~ Stay tuned

A Generation That Doesn't Want Relationship

We are in a generation that doesn't want relationship

We want a second pair of shoes in the artsy pictures we take of our feet

We want that Facebook official relationship that everyone can like and comment on.

We want the post that wins relationship goals.

We want that Taco Tuesday partner, someone to text us " Good Morning " on a Wednesday.

We want lots of likes for all the weddings we keep getting invited to.

How did they do it?
How did they find their happily ever after?
We all wanted this! But truthful we never committed to it
We are the generation that doesn't want a relationship.

We swipe left in hopes of finding the right one.
We read "5 Ways to Know He's Into You" and "7 Ways She Will Fall for You" thinking we can upcycle a person into a relationship like a Pinterest project.
We invest more time into our Twitter and Wechat profiles than we do with our personalities, yet we're the one who don't want a relationship.
We talk and we text, we what-sapp and we slept, we hangout and we happy hour, we go to starbucks and grab a coffee, anything to avoid an actual date.
We private message to meet up and small talk for an hour, only to return home and then small talk via text
We forgo any chance of achieving real connection by mutually playing games with no winner.

The only thing we end-up winning is most likely to be alone.

We want the facade of a relationship without work of a relationship
We want that hand holding without the eye contact
We want the teasing without the serious conversation
We want the pretty promise without the actual commitment
We want to celebrate the anniversaries without the 365 days that lead up to them
We want the happily ever after without the effort in the here and now,
We want to have deep connections but still keep things shallow,
We want that World Series kind of love without willing to go to bat
We want someone to hold our hands, but we don't want to put the power to hurt us in their hands
We want to be swept off our feet but at the same time remaining safely, independently standing on our own.
We want to keep chasing love, but we don't want to fall into it.
We don't want relationships, we want friends with benefits
We want everything that will give us the illusion of a relationship without an actual relationship
We want the rewards with no risk
We want the payout with no cost
We want to connect enough but not too much
We want to commit a little but not a lot.
We take it slow, we see where it goes,
We dont want to label things, we just go with the flow
We keep one foot out of the door, we keep one eye open
We keep people at arms length, toying with their emotions but mostly toying with our own
When things get too close to being real we run, we hide, we leave, we say to ourselves "there's more fish in the sea"
We want the downloadable person that's a perfect fit, just like an app you can update whenever there's a hitch, compartmentalized into a folder that we can delete when we have no need for it.
We don't want to unpack our baggage or worse help someone else unpack theirs
We hide everything behind an Instagram filter, we chose a Netflix show over a real conversation,
We feel entitled to love like we feel entitled to full-time jobs out of college
We want a placeholder not a person, we want a warm body not a partner
We want someone to eat with while we scroll through our news-feed

You see, what we need to recognize, is that the things we truly want, the things that are deeply meaningful, the things that are genuinely fulfilling, all require patience. They all require work. They all require energy. See? The challenge is, we all want to be with someone who makes us happy when what we need to do is to be someone who makes us happy

We sit with out friends discussing the rules but no one even knows what game we're trying to play because the problem with our generation not wanting relationships is that, at the end of the day, we actually do.
