The concept of AI is something that I think we are all familiar with, thanks to numerous amount of TV shows, movies, and novels. For me personally I found this some sort of tired concept. You just seen it too many times in Sci-Fi and especially the idea that AI is going to take over.
We have seen it movies like
Terminator,
Space Odyssey and as well as some of my favourite novels like
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Don't get me wrong, I find it a very interesting concept eventhough its overused, but when Stephen Hawkins in 2014 came out and said..
" But I think the development of full artificial intelligence would spell the end of the human race "
My mind sorta went..
" Pff... Stephennn, dude.. Whattdooya know about anything okay? Do you watch
Rick and Morty? Cuz I do and I think I have a little better grasp of the universe concept ideas like AI. Just stick to your science stuff all right? Thank you very mucccchhh! "
The concept of AI taking over feels so far off because it seems so obscured, the way its portrayed in Hollywood movies or in the work of fiction. However in reality its actually, I think or from what I've learned an ACTUAL THREAT!
The idea that Arnold Schwarzenegger could come back and kill us all, its not as far away as we think.
How do we come to this conclusion?
I'm gonna try and explain okay, but to be honest, I truly dont know shit about what Im talking about soo please cut me some slack along the way if you think I had the wrong opinion. If we take back a couple of steps, there's this game of
tic-tac-toe that I found, no matter what move you make, the computer would never let you win.
Its kinda annoying. Its programmed with algorithms so that no matter what move I make in those exactly what move to counter it to make sure that I can't win no matter what. Well, I suppose that's not a big deal huh? But lets take a more complex game than tic-tac-toe like chess for example. There's a lot more possible outcomes in that game. Some foresaw that within ten years a digital computer will beat a world chess champion.
It didnt take 10 years at all. Not until 1997
You may of heard of this, it was quite the big deal at the time,
DeepBlue was the first computer that was able to beat the reigning chess champion at the time
Garry Kasparov.
Now it still doesn't seem like that big of a deal and basically the way deep-blue worked was that it would scan every single possible outcome it could make about 200,000 per second. It would then make the best decision based on what he could find through this method of scanning. At this point,
I'm still like
Afterwards here's is where I think its gets interesting. In March 15, 2016, the champion of the Chinese board game go was beaten by an
AI against Alpha-Go.
Now the sole reason why this is such a big deal is because in Chess you only had so many options, but in GO there are so many different moves that you could make and there are more possible moves that you can make than there are atoms in the universe and there's no way that you're going to be able to compute that amount of options to figure out, whats the best move to make? So the question is..
How do they make this?
It might not seem that not big of a deal either but its really cool. It basically uses deep reinforcement learning which is similar to how we learn as humans, through trial and error, reward and punishment and of course raw inputs.
The computer figure learns itself how to become good at the game. Not too long ago, there was a
viral video from sethbling that uses method to teach a computer to play Mario and it became really freaking good at it.
Basically it uses neural network to learn how to play the game which is similar to how we think as human beings and with enough computing power, you could simulate a human brain in this way. I know its kinda exaggerating but yeah we are not there yet!
Of course it wasnt good from the beginning and it had to learn how to get good. The AI first dont even know where it has to go and what option available and what Mario is and eventually it figures out it needs to move right but through different generations and learning from trial and error and adapting from these mistakes. It eventually becomes better and better and yeah you got it, the similar method was used for the AlphaGo program where it would train against itself slowly becoming better and better and eventually a master at the game.
Theres also a
super cool video about a robot that doesnt know that it has limps but it teaches itself how to walk despite of this. It sorts of figures out it has four limbs but it doesnt know where those limbs on its body is attached and by trial and error it eventually figures out wheres its limbs are positioned and eventually it can very graciously move across.
Its really really cool. Self learning AI is really cool. There's a lot of advantages you can do with this like using it for design for example. Like there is this 1 video about an AI made a cabin partition that's in those most airplane which is far more reliable than the originals.
So then with Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking saying AI could become a problem in the future, that idea starts to sort of make more sense to me knowing that this is how it works.
So I quote again from one of the most famous Elon Musk's interviews saying that
Even Bill Gates, a guy who has been involving with computer softwares for years says that our method of evolving is very inefficient. Comparing it to how AI would be evolving and exponentially growing and knowing. Keeping that in mind, human are basically inferior lets be honest here.
With that being said, not everyone is on board in this idea that AI is going to take over or if its even a problem for the future. However, as vague as that sounds, there are still dangers involved with the development on this and we definitely need to be careful. How can we protect ourselves from ourselves? Do that question ever linger in your heads?
Anyhow, computers smarter than human beings is inevitable. That is, if you keep in mind how short we have even had technology and our presence in the universe. Now whether AI will be something good or destroy us all in the future, that's just for us to find out. I hope this post is educational to you guys and I surely hope I don't say anything wrong because I sure am no expert. Its just my two cents.
Kay guys gonna continue on the Rick on Morty show pasni.. Will post more blogpost similar to this soon~ Stay tuned
